Fitting your clubs to your game

Back in March, I reported on getting fit for the proper length clubs as well as for shafts that worked well with my particular swing. It’s been a few weeks and I thought I would follow up with how the “new” clubs have worked for me.

I had my Cobra irons reshafted with True Temper Dynamic Gold stiff shafts with Sensicore and regripped with the Lamkin Dual Density Torsion Control Tour Grips. The new shafts have given me a slightly higher ball flight and have seem to have added more spin to my iron shots. I also feel that I’m more accurate with them as well as I tend to lose very few shots well to the right or left of the target. The dispersion angle of my shots has narrowed significantly.

I also had an x-stiff Grafalloy Pro Launch 65 Wood shaft to my Cobra 10.5 degree F-Speed Driver head. I stuck with the Lamkin grips as well. I may switch the head to a lower lofted X-Speed Driver head later. It may be hard to change though since I’ve never hit my driver better. Again, I immediately noticed an improvement in accuracy. My misses aren’t as far off the target anymore. My ball flight seems to be a bit higher and much more penetrating. The club seems heavier than before without the stock shaft but it sure looks sharp with the dark blue shaft and blue and black grips to go with the black club head.

After all this, I recently recorded my best score at Champions by ten strokes – a 76. I also rung up 3 birds in the first five holes at Bridgeview. It was an up and down round and I finished with a 38. Something is definitely working!

Next up is to regrip and shorten my putter by an inch or so. Fit your clubs to your game and you may see some dramatic improvements.
