Courtney eliminated from The Big Break Ka’anapali

I caught the end of The Big Break. Courtney and Samantha were in the elimination and were playing two holes of golf – highest score goes home. Samantha shot 1 under and Courtney shot even par.

I had Courtney ranked last in my Big Break player rankings. So I guess you can say that I called that one last week. In fact, Courtney was lucky to avoid elimination last week as she kakked on almost every shot in the elimination round.

Courtney kakked on almost every shot of the first two competitions in this week’s episode as well: “I really wish Kevin were here.” To her credit, she played very well in the elimination round against Samantha. Maybe she just plays better straight out golf then she does in the challenges.

Episode seven started out with a chipping contest. Competitors started out at 20 yards from the flag and had to hit their ball into a scoring circle. If you missed, you were done. If you made it, you moved back to the next station. I believe the stations were at five yard intervals. The winner received immunity and an all expenses paid trip back to Maui for a golfing vacation plus a grand in spending cash.

And the first one out was – you guessed it – Courtney. Surprisingly, Sophie was next to miss. Lori tried to play some mind games with Christina and ended up psyching herself out. After Lori choked, she goes to the bench and hopes that Christina will choke. Hey Lori, you just choked yourself. If you were still in the competition, I guess you could continue talking trash. But once your ass is on the bench, shut up.

Kim “Kitty” Welch (Meow!) ended up the sole survivor by winning the chipping game. Nice going!

The second challenge involved various shots to a green. The competitor that ended up on the green and closest to the hole at each station was safe from elimination. The last two would go to the elimination round. From a downhill lie at the first station, Christina, The Cocky Kanuke, did anything but choke and ended up closest to the pin. I believe, Samantha and Lori hit nice shots as well but were not inside of Christina.

Next we went to a fairway bunker shot. No one hit it on the green until Sophie and Sexy Sophie was safe from elimination.

From there we went to a sidehill lie, Susan, Samantha, Courtney and Lori remained. Lori hit a good shot and was wondering why she was still in the competition. Maybe you’re not as good as you think – heck, I don’t know. Christina was wondering what Lori’s weakness was – I would say – overconfidence – maybe. She was running after everyone else’s shot to see if she had survived. Lori held on for elimination safety.

At the last station, Christina delivered again and left Samantha and Courtney to fight it out in the elimination round.

The elimination round consisted of two holes of golf – a par 3 and then a par 5. Courtney, aka Bashful, hit her shot through the green on the par 3. Samantha hit on. Courtney finally had a decent chip shot but missed her putt. Samantha two putted for par and a one stroke lead.

On the par 5, both hit nice drives in the fairway. Samantha had a nice second but was short of the green. Courtney must have tried to kill her second and flared it right. She hit her second nice approach of the day to birdie range. Samantha hit a nice chip inside of Courtney. Bashful canned the putt. Samantha, in Big Break slow motion to add excitement, nailed her putt as well.

Now for player rankings after week 7 (week 6 in parens):

6 (6) – Susan “Dippin’ Dots” Choi – dangerously clueless, has hit the two best bunker shots in big break history, has managed to pull through marvelously as well as kak in the heat of the moment. Reminds me of a Bon Jovi lyric – Whoa, oh, we’re halfway there, yeah. Whoa, oh, living on a prayer! She could prove me wrong.
5 (4) – Lori “Stink-eye” Atsedes – talks a Don Donatello game and suffers from the same flaw – overconfidence. Ended up psyching herself out when she tried to stink-eye Christina.
3 (1) – “Sexy” Sophie Sandolo takes a big drop from last week’s numero uno. I thought she would win the chipping challenge but made an early exit.
3 (5) – Samantha “The Quiet One” Head – moves up two spots from last week after great shots in the second challenge and for gaining more survival experience in the elimination round.
2 (3) – Christina “The Cocky Kanuke” Lecuyer moves up a spot after nailing the downhill approach shot and for her fine effort in the chipping contest despite Lori’s “stink-eye.”
1 (2) – I’ve got to move Kim “Kitty” Welch to number one after winning the chipping contest. Me-Ow! Ph-ht! Ph-ht!
