I’ve been a fan of the Big Break since the beginning but became an avid viewer when Pamela Crikelair squared off against Danielle Amiee in the Big Break III final. You loved to hate Danielle. Unfortunately (as further revealed in the Big Break VII Reunion), Pam wasn’t exactly the flawless underdog. When the pressure got high, Pam usually folded. But, to her credit, golf was relatively new to her and it was a bit early for her to be showcasing her game. Danielle later posed topless (oops, she’s no longer there – it appears there has been an effort to scrub the net of that photo which may have been her best work) and may have fallen out of the good graces of the Golf Channel as a result. I think I may be able to locate the uncensored version of topless Danielle with a little digging. She was at fyr.com under the user name abcgolfmail but no more. I wonder if Pam showcased her . . . clubcovers as well?
Danielle Aimee at her best
The Big Break VII reunion sucked me further in with the antics of Don Donatello. At first, I couldn’t stand the guy because he was such a cocky son of a beetch. Towards the end, I almost felt sorry for Donatello. His cockiness ended up being just a cover for his lack of self-confidence and ended up being his demise. If I recall correctly, Donatello had a ticket to the final but cashed it in to try to win a car. He ended up being eliminated as a result.
The Big Break Mesquite appears to have some interesting personalities as well. Anthony has already set himself up to be the next Don Donatello. Come to think of it, Kelly Murray may have been an even bigger tool than Donatello. At least, Donatello almost made it to the end. Murray took a quick exit. Gary Ostrego talked a huge game as well and didn’t last long at all.
We had three challenges before the elimination final. The first was a 266 yard shot, closest to the pin style. Having watched it and seeing at least a couple guys hit it O.B. and get no points, perhaps just hitting one in bounds might have been a good strategy. Anthony claimed to hit a cut three wood to the green. It looked pretty straight to me. A cut three wood from 266, whatever! Matt walked up there with a utility club – brilliant choice! Luckily, it came off the rocks and he got some points.
After the first challenge, Rick Schwartz is introduced as the host. The jury is out on him. He’s definitely no Vince Cellini.
Win this Big Break and you get
1 – exemption to the 2008 PGA Mayakoba Classic
2 – Adams golf endorsement of $10,000
3 – Dick’s sporting goods – $5000 cash and $5000 shopping spree
4 – 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible
Each show has a cut. On this one, the top 8 are safe and the bottom 4 go to the elimination. In addition, the points leader each day gets $1000 cash and the points champion at the end gets another Sebring.
The next challenge was a play on name that tune. You picked a distance from 125-225 yards and tried to hit it inside a circle. The one who hits it from farthest away gets 10 points, second farthest – 8, third – 6 and so on. Only three guys hit it in the circle. Matt E. from 130 yards. Hiroshi from 170 and Anthony from 175. Strategy here would have been to hit from as close as possible and just get some points.
The last challenge was the flop wall. Anthony tanked his shot leaving the door wide open for Hiroshi, who hit a six pointer and walked away with $1000. Strategy here may have been to hit from the second line instead of the third.
The elimination pitted Josh against the underdog, Roger and Benoit against his homey, Kevin. It was an up and down competition and Roger left himself too long of a putt and lost. Benoit lost to his bro, Kevin. From there, Benoit and Roger fought it out from a downhill bunker shot. Neither could get up and down the first time so they went again. This time, Roger hits a great shot. Despite the pressure, so does Benoit. Benoit makes his putt and Roger misses to become the first to exit.
It’s too bad because Roger looked to be a strong personality in the show. It should be a fun ride nevertheless.
One reply on “Big Break Mesquite Kicks Off with a Bang”
I watched the video above and had two thoughts. Wouldn’t Danielle have lossed the hole in match play if she putted out of turn? Also, Danielle had plenty of time to stop her swing or just stop and go through her routine again and regroup if Pam’s bending down bothered her.
