421 yard par 4 dogleg left first hole at Black Gold

If the weather sucks in Ohio, go to somewhere warm to play golf. We were in Yorba Linda, California for a little late December golf. Merry Christmas to me!

Here’s the first at Black Gold. I cut a little too much off the left corner and found myself near the bottom of the hill and just inside the concrete/fence.

299 yard par 4 and well bunkered second hole at Black Gold Golf Course

The second is well protected. If memory serves, I put it to the left of the bunkers and we chipped on from there.

Par 4, 364 yard third hole at Black Gold Golf Club

Three tee shots and all were just a little to the left. I found myself just to left of the bunkers here as well.
Greens were superfast – maybe the fastest I’ve ever played on.

410 yard par 4 5th hole, dogleg right

I’m pretty sure this is the fifth hole at Black Gold. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. It’s the number one handicap. It took everything we had to bogey this hole including a nice one putt bogey save.

Par 5 sixth hole at Black Gold

480 yard par 5 sixth at Black Gold. I had a shot at putting this on in two but came up a bit short. You run out of room to the left as you approach the green. And, of course, get it over the canyon in front of the tee. Don’t get greedy and try to cut off too much.

I drew my tee shot just a little too far left and believe it ended up in a canyon near the green. Damn!

350 yard par 4 12th hole at Black Gold

I thought I got a shot of the par 5 13th which was a gorgeous hole but I can’t find it. Here’s the 12th.

Weight still on the back foot a little bit which would explain that fade. But a good fade!

We’re running out of daylight on this California winter day. This hole narrows quickly. We got through 17 holes before being blacked out. Not bad for $55 though.

The Big Break

Big Break X, Michigan – Here come the crybabies

I haven’t been watching much of Big Break X, Michigan. I watched the first episode and was bored to tears. I did catch a couple episodes (episodes 5 and 6) last night and things started to heat up as the crybabies started bawling.

Apparently, Casey and Rachel and to a lessor degree, Haymes and Bernie, are complaining about David’s lack of etiquette during the competition. During the fade/draw wall competition, David asked if he could tamp down a divot. This drew ire from other competitors. I think Danielle Aimee may have tried the same thing in an earlier Big Break series. What’s the big deal? He just asked.

David got a little chippy when the officials told him that he couldn’t tamp down the divot. He told them to get the hell out of the way so he could play his shot. Oh well, not the most professional behavior on his part. He then promptly stuck his third shot on the green and while the ball was in the air walked away from the tee yelling, “Bingo! Done! Thank you very much!” Apparently crybaby Casey couldn’t handle this nor could he handle David cheering on Casey’s shots.

Casey and Rachel were apparently unraveled as they practically handed the next challenge to David and Sally. Somehow, David and Sally managed to blow it and end up in the elimination challenge.

Casey, Rachel, Bernie and Haymes – get the hell over it! What a bunch of babies! Aren’t you supposed to be professionals. Ignore it and play golf.

Turnberry Golf Club’s Thankful Open

2008 Thankful Open
On Friday, November 28th (day after Thanksgiving) Turnberry GC is having the 3rd annual Thankful Open. This is a 2-person scramble that features 2 different divisions: Adult/Adult or Adult/Junior (9-17). The cost is $50 per player ($35 for Columbus Golf Pass holders) which includes greens fees, cart, food and prizes. All proceeds will benefit the 2009 Turnberry Junior Golf Program. We use the funds to purchase golf clubs for kids to use during our junior golf lessons. Please come out and support a great cause.
