Cobra F/Speed Driver – Golf Club Review
I wanted to write a short review on the new Cobra F/Speed Driver. I recently obtained one used. The previous owner had put a fat Winn grip on it. I suppose to help alleviate a hook. The club head is a bit closed on the Cobra F/Speed Driver. Once you get used to the large clubhead (460 cc), it’s a very sharp looking driver. I bought it to replace my Callaway C4. It feels lighter than my Callaway C4 (which was a very light driver). It seems that I hit the Cobra F/Speed Driver a little farther then the C4. I definitely hit it more consistently well than the C4. The huge clubhead must have something to do with the Cobra F/Speed Driver’s forgiveness. If I’m slightly off on a given day, my driving is still more than acceptable. I would highly recommend this club. Especially if you can find it for $230 (7/06) like I did. I probably should have bought the X/Speed but for now the F/Speed has worked out well.
Yesterday, I took it out on the course. I started out with a 331 yard bomb on the opening par 5. Granted dry conditions produced some roll. On the fourth hole, a 412 yard par 4, I left it 80 yards from the green – another 332 yard blast. I can still work the ball from left to right but I need some more time to get adept at doing that with this club. Right to left is easy because the club face is slightly closed.
Of course it it tempting to bomb it on every hole. A little more prudence in using the beast would result in lower scores because sometimes I just end up hitting it farther into the woods. Alas, the allure of distance is too strong!

Andy writes this blog on central Ohio golf courses and beyond. And he can't wait to get out here soon to play some more Ohio golf!
The temptation to swing for the cheep seats is strong with this club. Slow and easy is the name of the game. Too much aggression in your swing will put you places you realy don’t want to be, like 100 yards left or right. If you are lucky enough to be blessed with self control, this is one of the best drivers you will find. Period.
