The first at Evergreen Golf Course
I headed out to Evergreen, Colorado for a little vacationing as well as some golfing. We decided to hit the local muni, Evergreen Golf Course, which is owned by the City of Denver. We had a 1:40 p.m. tee time on a Friday and the course was packed. Despite that, they were running 10 minutes ahead of schedule and we got off almost as soon as we arrived. Unfortunately, we had to rent clubs which I would strongly advise against because the rentals were absolutely lousy. Oh well, at least you could rent a three wheeled push cart if you chose to walk. Be forewarned however as walking ain’t so easy in the mountains at altitude.

A look back at the clubhouse from the 1st green
As you can see the views that the course afforded were absolutely amazing. You just don’t get this kind of scenery in Ohio. The course in general was typical of your local muni – short, small greens and tight fairways. Despite the amount of play it received, it was in good shape. The first is a straightforward, uphill par 4 that plays about 290. The hole helps slicers with a bank along the right side of the fairway which kept many a slice well in play.
Hole 2 at Evergreen Golf Course
Hole 2 was a slight dogleg left par 4. You can either play a draw through the narrow alley that you see here or (if I would have had my clubs) simply bomb it over the trees to the left.
Hole 3′s blind tee shot over the rock
Hole 3 is a short 109 yard par 3 with a twist. You must hit over a rock that blocks your view of the green. If you look closely, you may see the white arrow showing you where to aim.
Hole 3′s directive
I’ve never seen this before on a golf course. Apparently, you get 2 chances to hit it over the rock and then it’s time to move on. This may speak to the level of play at Evergreen.
Evergreen’s lone par 5 on the front
The fifth is a 536 par 5 with out of bounds running all the way down the left. Nothing tricky, just straightaway all the way.
The par 4 ninth at Evergreen Golf Course
I enjoyed the ninth hole. A dogleg right 400 yard par 4. With a bit more fade, I could have made this hole much easier. The second shot is into a narrow green with not much room for error.
Overall, Evergreen was a fun course with great views. Those mountain and lake views were well worth the price of admission – just bring your own clubs.

Tiger’s shot on 13 ultimately did him in
Woods pulled off a miraculous shot at 13 which gave him the confidence to try what would have been an even more miraculous shot at 15, a slice 5 iron from 228 yards. The shot on 15 turn out to be ill advised. He did save par but in reality a par on 15 is a bogey especially when you are 3 behind at the time.
2007 Masters: A complete bore
Besides the lousy announcers (Faldo excluded), the 2007 Masters was a complete bore. Sure there was a little intrigue with Tiger trying to fight his troubled swing and come from three behind, but Masters tournament organizers had made the course so tough that the back nine on Sunday (typically the most exciting 9 holes of golf) was devoid of excitement. Where were the slew of birdies and eagles that allowed competitors to make a final 9 charge?
Granted Woods did have a back nine eagle and then completely blew it on 15 going for another, there were no other notable fireworks. Perhaps Masters tournament geniuses will figure it out next year and bring back the opportunity for the most exciting nine holes in golf.
